So, Will There Be a Pirates 4 or Not?
If it's up to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie will be the last. Or at least the last Pirates movie with the current cast.
"This is the end of the current trilogy, but whether one of the characters or a couple of the characters continue on, it’s a possibility”, Bruckheimer told newspaper The Herald Sun. “Certainly, in a moment at the end of the film there is a hope that something else might happen.” I guess this means that whether or not there will be a fourth Pirates movie doesn't depend entirely on Johnny Depp being in it, although Depp has told several times that he would love to continue with the franchise, as long as the screenwriters are able to come up with interesting stories.
Geoffrey Rush, playing rival pirate captain Barbosa, had the following to say about this: "Inevitably they may think about it, but Johnny may say, ‘Pah, I’ve burnt out Jack. I couldn’t go there again’. Or he may not. I certainly know he wouldn’t say ‘Hey, treble my fee and I’ll do it!" I think that if Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is as popular as people expect it to be, there will be Pirates movies for the years to come, and we will have many summers of Pirates squaring off against Spidey.
Why stop the sausage machine cranking out more snags when those bad boys are still selling?
Jerry Bruckheimer, uber-producer and point-man on the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, tells The Herald Sun that a fourth “Caribbean” film may happen – but it might be a spin-off.
“This is the end [of the current trilogy], but whether one of the characters or a couple of the characters continue on, it’s a possibility”, Bruckheimer tells the paper. “Certainly, in a moment at the end of the film there is a hope that something else might happen”.
Geoffrey Rush seconds that claim, saying a fourth film is very likely – but it just mightn’t star Johnny Depp.
“Inevitably they may think about it, but Johnny may say, ‘Pah, I’ve burnt out Jack. I couldn’t go there again’. Or he may not. I certainly know he wouldn’t say ‘Hey, treble my fee and I’ll do it”.
