The case against the church - A bagful of objections
Why are so many people hostile to the church? Let us list some of the common objections, before we look at the Biblical understanding of the church. Then, at the end of the chapter, we can see the objections in perspective. Here is a starter.
I don't like the church because:
the people in it are so hypocritical
it's full of old maids of both sexes
it doesn't do anything you have to be so pious to belong
I don't believe God has "office hours" on Sunday morning the churches are always fighting among themselves
I can't stand the horrible anthems the choir sings
I'm more interested in this world than in heaven
the church is always fifty years behind the times
. . . it's doing things that counts, not pulling a long face on Sunday
. . . religion is an individual matter
 . . . ministers don't practice what they preach
(The space is left for objections of your own. If you need more room, write in the margin.)Some of these objections are valid and some are foolish. But every one of them is commonly heard.
